2026 Full Year Results

Delivering NAB’s financial year 2026 results NAB CEO Andrew Irvine says the bank continues to deliver for customers despite a challenging environment.

Higher inflation, five cash rate rises, rising living costs and global uncertainty are weighing on customer confidence and business conditions, with households watching their budgets closely and businesses absorbing higher costs.

"Australians continue to show resilience in a slowing environment," Mr Irvine said.

NAB delivers on strategy

NAB delivered strong underlying profit growth in FY26, supported by higher volumes and stable margins, while further strengthening its balance sheet.

"Underlying profit, excluding the large notable item announced at the half, increased 6.9% and revenue grew 5.8%. Costs were up 4.5% and NIM improved," Mr Irvine said.

"The Board declared a final dividend of 85 cents per share.  This brings total dividends to $1.70 and returns billions of dollars to our shareholders and millions of Australians who own NAB shares through their superannuation."

Mr Irvine said NAB’s customer-centric strategy is delivering, with progress made across its three priorities of growing business banking, driving deposit growth and strengthening proprietary home lending.

"Our business divisions are getting stronger, despite competition, strategic disruption and a challenging environment," Mr Irvine said.

"Across Business and Private Banking, and our Corporate and Institutional Bank, NAB is the largest business lender in Australia, with customers ranging from small traders to large corporates and institutions.

"Taken together, these two divisions account for approximately 75% of underlying profit.  We’re also the largest business lender in New Zealand with our BNZ franchise."

NAB's core Business and Private Banking business grew lending balances by 10.5% and deposits by 6.1%.

"Corporate and Institutional Banking grew lending by 9.0%, deposits by 5.5% and pleasingly was recognised with market leading customer advocacy scores," Mr Irvine said.

"In Personal Banking, we increased deposits by 7.0%.  And in Australian home lending, the proportion of new loans through proprietary channels rose to 53% in the second half, helping us manage through a changing market.

"NAB’s deep expertise, long-tenured bankers and relationship-led approach is making a difference. We are determined to keep investing in and growing these businesses."

Simplifying and strengthening NAB for the future

Looking ahead, Andrew Irvine said NAB needed to simplify how it operates and improve execution to sustain its performance.

The bank recently announced plans to simplify its operating model, including reducing its workforce by up to 2,500 roles by September 2027. The changes are required to reduce duplication, speed up decisions, further strengthen risk posture and direct investment towards areas that matter most to customers.

"These are difficult decisions that impact our colleagues – and we are treating them with care, with dignity and with respect," Mr Irvine said.

"This will better position NAB to respond to customer expectations, to rising competition and to rapid technological change, as well as to navigate a softening economy.

"The actions we’ve taken reflect our expectation of a tough year ahead."

However, Andrew Irvine said he remained optimistic about Australia’s longer-term outlook.

"NAB enters financial year 2027 with good underlying momentum, clear strategic priorities and an established leadership team," Mr Irvine said.

“As we simplify and strengthen our bank for the future, we are not losing our customer focus. They are why we exist.”
