Why no interest loans and microfinance matter

We invest in microfinance initiatives that expand access to fair and affordable finance, with a focus on directing capital towards three priority areas: climate resilience, housing affordability and First Nations economic advancement. Our goal is to build financial inclusion in Australia and provide our customers and communities with opportunities that create lasting, sustainable impact.

Our longstanding partnership with Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand (Good Shepherd) has established a strong foundation for this work. For 23 years, together with state and federal governments, we have supported access to financial resources, education and no and low interest products in over 600 locations around Australia.

To celebrate over two decades of partnership, we released the 20 Years of Partnership Report (PDF, 3MB) that highlights key achievements of the partnership, our joint focus on housing affordability and how we will continue to champion financial inclusion together.

No interest loans

We’ve provided over 480,000 no interest loans to low-income Australians.

We support Good Shepherd’s No Interest Loans (NILs) program to help Australians pay for household essentials, medical and education expenses with loans of up to $2,000.

Depending on your current financial circumstances, you may be eligible for a NILs loan. If you’d like to learn more, please visit the NILs website.

Financial assistance

In partnership with Good Shepherd and state governments, we’ve opened Good Money stores in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. At these stores, you can access no interest loans and chat with experts to learn more about finance.

We’ve also used the lessons learned in Australia to support the development of financial inclusion in New Zealand, through Bank of New Zealand, the New Zealand Government, the Salvation Army and Good Shepherd NZ.
